LIIAR Analysis, Kerrang: Double Page Spread

Language: A double page spread will usually have one half filled with a large picture of the solo artist or band that the article is about.
It is unusual because the artists name has not been stated on the double page spread this could be to suggest that you should already know who they are so they do not need to be introduced.
There has been only one pull quote used in this double page spread, but it is an effective one. The use of this pull quote will make the audience want to carry on reading the article to make sense of the quote and to find out what the new album will be like and how it is going to be different from their other albums.
The colour scheme for this double page spread has changed now. The reason for this is to match the colours that the singer is wearing and to match the album cover that you can see at the bottom of the right page. This makes sure that everything blends well together on the page so nothing will draw the readers eyes away from the main columns of the article.
The double page spread is written in columns making it clear and easier for the audience to read and it also makes it harder to loose track of where you were reading it. The layout of this double page spread and the way the image is set out help us to get an impression of what the band is like and what their style of music is.
The main image is only one person but as you can see the other image presented on the page is a different person in it therefore showing the double page spread is about a band. By only showing him as the main image it is showing us that he will most likely be the lead vocalist. A mid shot has been used to give a sense of his style and also to reinforce the rock artist stereotype. The emotion shown on his face links in with the pull quote to show the audience that he wants to be taken seriously.

Ideology: The reason the band have not been introduced on this page could be to suggest that they have been in the rock industry for a while therefore do not need an introduction because they are already well known. An older artist has been used so the article will reach out to Kerrangs wider audience and so young people and older people will both enjoy reading this article. The style of the two people in the images help us to get an idea of what their music will sound like. Also including a guitar in the smaller image it is clarifying that they are a band. It is also an electric guitar which is usually stereotyped with rock or indie rock music.

Institution: By looking at this double page spread you know that the company who produced the magazine will be one who focuses on rock. The house style of the pages, including the font and colours that have been used all show the typical colours that are included in a rock magazine. This being another convention of a 'typical' rock magazine. The font is also continuing from the from the front cover and the contents page therefore letting the audience know it is probably going to be Kerrang magazine, that's why keeping similarities on each page is a good idea.

Audience: The style of the band that are featured on this page lead us to believe that the main audience for the magazine will be those who enjoy rock music and possibly have a similar style to the band members shown. The use of an older band allow for a wider audience to like the magazine because it will be appealing to an older audience aswell as a younger one. The neutral colours grey and white that have been used show that this magazine is for a male and a female audience.

Representation: The way In which the grey colour has been added onto the white background once again represents a graffiti/spray painted look this then reinforcing the rebellious style of the whole magazine. The seriousness of the band members face in the main image is showing him and other rock artists in general as a stronger person. Also to show their passion for the music because they don't need to pose to attract people to like their music like other genre artists do. The style of his clothes have the rock artist look to them but then again has a difference from other rock artists, this could be a reflection on their music to show the audience that they are different and original.
