Language: Just like the front cover of the Kerrang magazine the contents page is very crowded making it a typical convention of a rock magazine. Half of the contents page is taken up by an image of a band/artist that are being featured in the magazine.
This contents page is not from the same issue as the front cover. So the band 'Bring me the horizon' would've been the main image for the front cover of this issue meaning that the main focus bands or artists are both shown on the front cover and the contents page.
The similar graffiti font headings have been used on the contents page to add a continuous effect throughout the magazine, similar colours from the front cover have been used with the addition of yellow keeping a theme running.
Unlike usual pop magazines the main image on this page is showing the particular artist in more of a natural surrounding like a 'gig', whereas in pop genre magazines the artist will be shown in a photoshoot surrounding and will have there hair and makeup done nicely. By putting the band or artist in a more natural surrounding it is showing the audience that they are more down to earth people and do not want to be put on a pedestal. The colours used on the contents are very simple colours, this allows for photos and other bits of text to stand out on the page.
The magazine has included posters and competitions into their magazine to entice the audience to buy the magazine and to get more involved. They have made it so the audience can get the magazine delievered to their house, this makes it easier for the audience to purchase the magazine and makes the magazine more profit because the audience will be paying each month to recieve the magazine.
The artist who is shown on the image has many tattoos and long dark hair. These all leads to the typical stereotype of a rock artist therefore showing the audience the type of music the magazine focuses on.The name of the magazine is also included on the contents page this is to remind the audience of the magazines institution.
Ideology: The structure of this contents page is reinforcing the indie rock theme making it clear to the audience the genre of music the magazine is aimed at. The sub headings for the more 'important' articles stand out more clearly to the audience because they will be the main features that the targeted audience will want to focus on. An example of this is the 'bring me the horizon' subheading, you can clearly see that the page number is larger than others therefore showing the audience that it is the most important feature in the magazine. Once again the stereotypical rock artist has been used as the main image, but it uses images of different aged artists so it will be appealing to it's wider audience and will not only attract teens.
Institution: The similar fonts and colours that have been used on the contents page and the addition of the magazines name is making it clear that the institution is Kerrang. Including the magazines name on the contents page is making it clear to the audience what magazine they are reading. Showing them that 'Kerrang' are the company who are responsible for producing the magazine and for selling the magazine.
Audience: The target audience for this magazine is people who enjoy rock music, this is shown clearly to the audience because of the type of bands and artists that are featured on the particular contents page. The age range will also be wide and will not just stick to a set group of people explaining why bands and artists of all ages are featured in this magazine.
Representation: The main image on this contents page has a male who is covered in tattoos this is showing the audience that it is ok to be different. The girl stood near him also has bright coloured hair which is also showing that the magazine is for people who stand out from the crowd and are not afraid to express who they are. The way the people are dressed in the images is carrying on the 'rebellious' look and the unique style of the bands or solo artist, this is carrying on from the front cover of the Kerrang magazine.
