The
language for all of these magazine is very similar. Each front cover include a young looking person as their main focus which makes the concept of the magazine. All of the college magazines have illustrations talking about the future, this is a popular feature in the magazines because that is what college students want to focus on. The theme of the covers is young and fun which makes you think of your college days. For the first magazine the college have used Mike Posner as their main image this will make the magazine more popular to buy because the target audience will recognise who he is because of their age, which will make them want to buy the magazine because they will like the fact a celebrity is being associated with their college.
The
ideology of these three magazine covers is for people who are students in college and are wanting to find out about things that are happening in colleges and college activities they could take part in, all of the magazines have quite a simple layout because college students will be more bothered about the content rather than the layout. Also the last magazine has a coloured person as their main image this suggests to the audience that their college has a range of ethnicity's and that they are not racist. Also in the second magazine the college chose to use a blonde girl as their model, this was used to prove a point, because a lot of blondes are stereotyped as 'dumb blondes' so using her as their model is showing that not all blondes are dumb because she is going to college, so the purpose is to get rid of those stereotypes.
The
institutions for these magazines will be the college the magazines were made about because it advertises their college when they create magazines and sell them to the general public. Another institution is the magazine itself, the house style of the magazines are simple but affective, on each magazine front cover the font that is used for the masthead is used throughout all of the text on the page, the font runs throughout the magazines so the magazine will appeal to the younger audience as well as the older audience, it adds maturity to the magazine so parents who might buy the magazine will not think of it as being a childish magazine.
The
target audience for these magazines will be college students mainly from the ages of 16-18, but these magazines could also be aimed at parents of children who are at college so they can get the best college advice for their children. This target audience means that the magazines will be sold in supermarkets such as Tesco so parents will see it, but then it would also be sold in the actual college of the magazine so the students will see it and maybe find some interest in the magazine.
The
representation of these magazines is smart and simple. The models on the front of the magazines look young and look like they could be college students which means the target auidence would be more likely to relate to the magazine. The main similarity in these magazines is that they are all called 'College' this is to keep the simple affectivness to the magazines and staright away you know what type of content will be in the magazine. These magazines represent youth and the younger audience should look at these magazine front covers and want to be like the models that on on these magazines. In all of the magazines each model/subject is dressed smart to show they all have self respect and it shows that they will be good students, So to the audience it will show the college has students there that actually want to learn.
The typical
conventions of these magazines are all very similar. Each magazine has a Main image and the main image is a young person who is likely to be a student which is more appealing to the audience who would want to buy the magazine. There is also a masthead which in this case is 'college' for all of the magazines on the page. There is anchorage which tells you about the main image, for example on the first image, the main image is Mike Posner and next to his picture is says 'Mike Posner is cooler than you' this is anchorage. The last convention of these magazines are the sell lines, sell lines are included on every front cover of a magazine because it is the main thing that sells the magazine because it gives the audience and idea of what is included in the magazine.
The colours of each magazine are bright, happy colours, this is because those particular colours reach out more to the younger audience because the colours may denotate yellow or green they connote happiness and fun and summer time which students/teens enjoy. Whereas if the target audience for these magazines were an older audience darker, more sophisticated colours would be used.
